The music lovers:
For those who would like to make music their forte, we are offering several opportunities to learn Japanese instruments. Create heart pounding rhythms with taiko drums or stringed melodies with the koto. If you are looking for a truly immersive musical experience, sign up for the Guest Artist Music Workshops, featuring instruction for the koto or shakuhachi for adults, and koto, shakuhachi and taiko available to children.

Feeling blue? Take part in the Shibori Indigo workshop, it’s tie-dye for! Here you learn all about Shibori, a Japanese technique of manual resist dyeing used to make patterns on fabrics. Apply these various techniques to customize a set of special dinner napkins for your home- your dinner guests will certainly be impressed.

Get wrapped up in The Art of Japanese Gift Presentation workshop. Learn the customs and art of Japanese gift presentation in this hands-on workshop. Combining traditions with contemporary aesthetics, participants are introduced to the beauty of Japanese packaging and design, often times incorporating natural and unconventional materials. Learn to wrap with washi (Japanese traditional handmade paper), create uniquely designed boxes, and other techniques to give your gift an Asian-inspired elegance. Your holiday gifts will surely stand out this year!

The art of block printing:
You’re never too old to play with blocks! Japan has a long, rich history of woodblock printing, called mokuhanga, dating back to the 11th century. The ukiyo-e genre of block prints flourished in Japan from the 17th through 19th centuries. Explore a modern twist on the ancient art form of woodblock printing. In this workshop you carve and print on linoleum blocks to create unique and exciting imagery.
